A unique experiment to illustrate the impact of wood and time on the same base spirit. This Single Malt Scotch Whisky was distilled in 1990 at the Bowmore Distillery and then aged for nearly 30 years in a refill bourbon hogshead. In 2021 the whisky was reracked into a PX Sherry-seasoned Mizunara Cask from Hokkaido; a novel feat never before seen in the Scotch Whisky Industry. After the liquid had absorbed enough of this cask's influence, it was given a final rest in a virgin Mizunara cask before being bottled at the end of 2021.

A unique experiment
The Mizunara Wood itself was dried for 3 years before being coopered to measure by one of Japan’s most renowned cooperages. This whisky is also the sister cask to one of East Asia Whisky Company’s other Bowmore release from the Japan Edition, Cask No. 3974 which was distilled on the same day as part of the same batch!. Collectors will be able to explore the impact of different casks on the same spirit! A very unique experience.
Sustainably sourced European Wallnut Wood
Using only the finest FSC® certified walnut wood, this release comes with a custom gift box and presentation case that was designed with laser-etched Japanese Cloud patterns on the box and over the closing edge. The laser etching was calibrated to the perfect temperature and speed such that the to make the engraving pop with a dark charred golden brown. Both the magnets and hinges use pure copper finishes to pay tribute to the material used to make this whisky.

The Bowmore Distillery
Bowmore is a pioneering house and the oldest licensed distillery on Islay. The distillery have been refining their craft for over 240 years, and we still does to this day. Own proprietary malt barns, hand-turned barley, and perfectly timed fermentation periods are what set the whisky apart from other less handmade products. In addition, all casks are hand-selected, with every single one being nosed before it is filled with new make. This care and attention to detail is what creates the complex balance of not just Smoke, but also rich fruit and sea salt which is so characteristic of the timeless house style. This is the reason why Bowmore ages like no other, the reason why it is the world’s most collectible Islay malt today.
